Calo Consulting is an environmental data engineering firm. We provide senior advisory services regarding environmental, land use, and regulatory topics, and environmental data services: data collection, analysis, and derived data products. Founded by Ben Calo and Aysegul Demir, the firm serves businesses and government agencies. The firm also builds proprietary software and webtools, licensed where there is a market for them.
Chief Executive Officer
Ben Calo, CEO brings environmental, land, and regulatory domain expertise, with experience across government agencies, industrial companies, and corporate environments.
Ben has led permitting efforts across multiple states, supported public agencies, and managed ESG reporting across global supply chains. He holds an MS in Geosciences (CSU Chico) with a specialty in hydrogeology and began his career as a geologist with the California Department of Water Resources and the State Water Resources Control Board, and in Alaska's oil fields.
He has served as:
- A Senior Project Manager at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, leading initiatives that streamlined permitting reviews and filled institutional knowledge gaps created by senior staff transitions
- The CSRD readiness and ESG data lead at Arrow Electronics, managing global supply chain coordination for pollution and circular economy reporting across thousands of suppliers and all business units globally
- An Environmental and Land Manager for Martin Marietta, overseeing mining, oil and gas, asphalt and concrete operations across the Southwestern U.S., including multi-jurisdictional permitting and compliance for sites valued over $100M
Chief Data Officer
Aysegul Demir, PhD, CDO brings operations research, statistical methodology, data architecture, and pipeline development: the analytical judgment and the engineering that turns expertise into tools and products that scale. She leads the firm's analytical and decision advisory: model and methodology review, operations research and optimization, decision analysis under uncertainty, and statistical methodology.
Prior to Calo Consulting:
- Senior Supply Chain Data Scientist at Intel, developing operations research models and optimization frameworks for global manufacturing operations
- Member of Intel's Franz Edelman Award-winning program for transformative analytics work in supply chain and manufacturing optimization
- Pursued applied research in healthcare and manufacturing optimization, bridging academic methodology with industrial practice
- PhD Industrial Engineering (Arizona State University), with a dissertation on optimal decision timing under uncertainty
- Peer-reviewed publications in optimization and healthcare operations
